Fall treats abound this month. For starters, my sweet friend Emma asked me to accompany her to see Christina Aguilera at the Chicago Theatre. It was an incredible experience; she’s not graced the stage in Chicago for ten years, and add to that it was her first dates back from cancellations due to illness. Even with a cough here and there between banter, her vocal range is a wonder with immense power behind her voice. The stage show was lovingly crafted to play well in what - at her level - would be considered an intimate space. When you’re used to selling out arenas, I suppose there is a certain pressure to playing a concert hall where even the cheap seats can make out details. Up next on the personal docket: my annual Halloween trip to Six Flags for Fright Fest. It really is the main reason I get the season passes. I happen to be close friends with the lord of the damned, Nox. Plus, I’m completely enamored with his little apprentice, Nix.

At Nerdlesque held in the basement bar of Headquarters Beercade, I brought back my RHPS Trixie opener and my tribute to Shaun of the Dead. More on the latter in a moment. Bim Bam Boom’s Peepshow is outgrowing the Playground Theater, so the run is coming to Under the Gun - just up Clark Street. The new venue means new capabilities and upgrades to our burlesque party. If you’re local, I do hope you’ll come out this Saturday to HQBC for the STAB Halloween event. They really kick it into gear for their soirees: there will be classic slasher film installations, themed cocktails, and up for grabs is a costume contest boasting the biggest cash prize in Chicago. Come play with us!
