There was no set posted in May. Don't worry! Even though this is the first time I've skipped a month, you were not charged. Your pledge is only collected when I've shared something with you.
Why would I miss a month? I'm moving.
This has been a long and drawn out process, sucking up all of my available energy. The condensed version goes like this: My place in Ukrainian Village has skyrocketing taxes. Old bungalows are being built out, converted, and in many cases razed to the ground to make way for modern, multi-unit luxury condos. The neighborhood is changing, and like it or not, our hippie landlady has to keep up. She is going to gut rehab the flat, compromising the quirky charm of our place - which she loves too - in order make ends meet. We've been far below market (in eight years she's raised the rent maybe twice) and we are being priced out. Thankfully, she's given us more time than could reasonably be expected. We will host our annual Printers Row Lit Fest Salon here, with the theme "Goodbye Flat, Hello Future" to close this chapter.
What's next for our bohemian freelancing heroes?
We have finally found another quirky apartment in the 'burbs. Leaving the city is bittersweet. Over on my partner's Patreon, he's dedicating a zine to documenting our move. Our new little village is still closer to city center than many of the north or south side neighborhoods. Boasting two cta lines and a metra, we're not cut off from the nightlife we build our lives on. With the keys already in hand, we've started moving precious things (like the library and musical instruments) ourselves. It is also a chance for me to give the new flat a deep cleaning before the official move date of Jun 15th. I'm sure there will be many photosets shot in the new abode, once we're all settled in!
Once again, thank you for all you do to support my life through my art. Without you, things like this would be impossibly difficult. If you're local or visiting Chicago, I will be spreading the good word of the Bizarro genre at Printers Row on June 8th and 9th. I'd love to say hello with hugs if you stop by! Otherwise, I will see you on the other side!
All My Lust,
Sauda Namir
